Gym Turf Installation & Maintenance Guidance

Installation guidance for gym turf on hardened flat surfaces, including direct fixing, seam joining, final cleaning, and basic maintenance.

Tools Needed for Installation

  • Brush or vacuum cleaner
  • Weights
  • Utility knife
  • Glue
  • Double sided tape
  • Joint tape
  • Edge trim strips
  • Underlay (if needed for height adjustment)

Installation Methods

Direct Fix

Fix the turf directly onto an existing hardened flat surface — concrete, wooden floor, rubber mats, tiles, or similar.

Edge Trim

Lay the turf down, fix it to the ground, and use edge trim strips along the perimeter to protect and secure the edges.

Embedded

Embed the turf between rubber flooring to keep it level with surrounding tiles. Add an underlay beneath if the turf is thinner (10mm, 15mm, or 20mm available).

Installation Steps

Follow these steps for a clean, durable installation.

Step 1 — Clean the Ground

  • Ensure the ground is completely clean — use a brush or vacuum cleaner to remove all dust and debris before installation begins.
2

2. Roll Out & Flatten

Roll out the turf and ensure it is 100% flat. If necessary, use weights on the turf and leave it for at least 24 hours to settle fully.

3

3. Measure & Trim

Measure dimensions carefully and place the turf in the correct position. Trim off the excess and fix in place. Rolls include extra length and width as a buffer for imperfect walls or angles.

Step 4: Fixation Methods

Use glue or double-sided tape to fix the turf firmly to the ground. Both methods are effective; choose based on your installation type.

  • Glue method: apply adhesive to the entire backing for maximum durability and long-term performance
  • Tape method: use double-sided tape at the edges and across the centre for a semi-permanent setup
  • For high-traffic gym areas, the full-backing glue method is strongly recommended

Jointing Multiple Pieces Together

When the installation area requires more than one turf piece, follow this six-step jointing process.

1

Lay & Cut

Lay the pieces of turf over the area. Using a utility knife, cut from the backside to fit the area. Cut all edges as straight as possible — clean cuts hide the seam.

2

Apply Tape & Glue

Fold back the turf pieces and roll out joint tape in the centre between the two edges. Brush glue onto the joint tape and onto the backside of both turf edges.

3

Fix & Cure

Put down the edges carefully — ensure NO grass yarn sticks to the joint tape. Step on the seaming areas and edges repeatedly to fix firmly. Add weights and wait 24 hours if needed.

Critical Jointing Rules

Seam failure is almost always caused by these common mistakes. Do not skip these rules:

  • No grass yarn must stick to or be trapped in the joint tape — check this before pressing down
  • Cut edges must be as straight as possible — crooked cuts leave a visible seam line
  • Apply glue evenly across the full width of the tape — thin spots cause gaps over time
  • Step firmly and repeatedly along the full seam length to ensure strong adhesion
  • Wait 24 hours before any use on or near the seam areas

Step 5: Final Touch

Once all seams are cured and the turf is firmly fixed, run a final vacuum clean across the entire surface. Your professional gym turf installation is now complete and ready for use.

  • Vacuum clean the track for a professional finishing touch
  • Inspect all edges and seam lines for any loose sections
  • Track is ready for use

Gym Turf Maintenance Guidance

Keep your gym turf in top condition with these simple care routines:

  • Use a vacuum cleaner (with brush) to clean the gym sprint tracks. Use a damp — not soaking wet — mop to wipe the sled track turf when it gets dirty.
  • Avoid contact with very hot materials or close proximity to glass structures to prevent shrinkage of the gym grass fibers.

With proper installation and basic maintenance, your gym turf will deliver consistent performance, durability, and a professional finish for years of demanding use.
